Roker Report claim that according to their information if the club opt to acquire the services of Toney this summer it will be on a temporary basis as the possibility of a loan deal will be explored.

The Chronicle previously reported that Rafa Benitez would sanction the sale of Toney if the right buyer came in for him.

OPINION

It seems that the Magpies bitter rivals’ quest for a new forward has led them to check out Toney and it’s easy to see that his exit is on the cards this summer. The 22-year-old has already had several loan spells away from the Magpies and it’s likely that he will depart again this summer on either a permanent or temporary basis. Toney is still miles off being ready to break into the Magpies’ first-team so the club shouldn’t stand in the way if Sunderland make an approach for him.The attacker spent last season on loan at Wigan in League One, scoring 14 goals in 46 appearances for the club, so it’s easy to see why he’s being consider an option by Sunderland. With them set to start life in England’s third-tier in their upcoming campaign they’re no doubt keen to recruit players who know the division well so Toney fits the bill. According to Roker Report’s update a deal for Toney is a long way off happening at this stage as there are many names being considered options in Sunderland’s hunt for a new forward.
