Some Newcastle United fans took to social media to deliver their verdict on a report that claimed the club was pursuing a deal for Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck.
TeamTalk reported on Monday that the Magpies were ready to offer to take the 27-year-old England international on loan and that they were even ready to cover his £100,000-a-week plus salary in order to get him.
It has previously been stated by reliable statistic site Spotrac that Welbeck’s current Gunners deal sees him take home £125,000-a-week.
While a section of Magpies fans were divided about whether he was worth signing due to his injury record, they all seemed to agree that they couldn’t see this deal happening due to Welbeck’s huge pay packet.
Nothing But Newcastle have rounded up a selection of tweets by Magpies supporters about the reported pursuit of Welbeck:
I struggle to understand where the 100k a week comes from for a injury prone, frankly unproven in consistency player tbh.

Contract up at the end of season so can't see Arsenal loaning him out. Will want a fee now

OPINION
It says a lot about the current level of belief surrounding the Magpies’ transfer business when they’re not even convinced that they can sign a Premier League star who is clearly set to be surplus to requirements. Welbeck only managed to start 12 games last season for the Gunners and clearly there is an opportunity for a side to acquire his services this summer for that reason. However it’s easy to see why supporters remain unconvinced by a report that claims the Magpies would be willing to gamble paying over £100,000-a-week on a forward with a worrying injury record while Mike Ashley owns the club, given the window so far.
