A section of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to sign free agent Max Meyer.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been released by Schalke and is now available on a free transfer, but no clubs have yet registered an interest in the Germany international despite his vast experience in the Bundesliga.

The news of Meyer’s release from Schalke has excited many of the Newcastle faithful, who are keen for the club to make the most of his free agent status. These include comments such as “I’d take Meyer all day” and “go get Max Meyer.”

Nothing but Newcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets from fans:

OPINION

The news that Max Meyer is available on a free transfer has undoubtedly gone down well with the Newcastle fans based on these tweets. He is a quality midfielder and it is surprising that no clubs have a concrete interest in him yet. Seeming as United have low transfer budget, they should be jumping at the chance to sign the German on a free. He would provide a major boost to their midfield and add that extra touch of class that could propel them up the table. Benitez does not have much time left to swoop for the attacker, and will need to do so imminently on the advice of his fans.
