Never quite happened for him. Shame, he seemed to be very promising in the first half of last season!

No hard feelings, we couldn't give him the game time he needs to become the player we can all see he could be. Disappointed to only get £10m for him but he needs to play. Good luck to him.

They'll regret this just how they regret letting Thauvin go.

OPINION
The reported fee is very low for someone of Mikel Merino’s ability, £10million is a real bargain. Whoever agreed to that being included in the transfer has made a big mistake. He will be a loss to Newcastle because he’s got real quality in his left-foot and had huge potential, which he’ll now develop in Spain rather than England. It will be a good move for the player, being able to move back his home country and play regularly in La Liga, but Magpies fans are probably wishing that he could have stayed at St. James Park for another few years at least.
