Contrary to reports over the weekend, Newcastle have not made a bid for Aston Villa attacker Albert Adomah, according to a reliable journalist.
Lee Ryder, chief football writer with the Chronicle, made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Monday afternoon.
However, more positive news was added as he said that Newcastle were involved in talks with “more viable targets”.
#nufc haven't bid for #avfc Albert Adomah after reports on Sunday. More talks on more viable targets have taken place today.

OPINION
Newcastle fans will probably be pleased to hear that no bid has been made for Villa’s Adomah. He’s a good Championship player, but he’s not what Benitez needs at St James’ Park. The report originally came from the Sun on Sunday (page 60) where it was suggested that Benitez would switch his attentions to Adomah if he couldn’t pull off a deal for winger Andros Townsend. Ryder simply says no bid has been made but doesn’t actually say whether there is any truth in the report. If Adomah is seen as a back-up option to Townsend, then they wouldn’t be firming up their interest with a bid until that deal is dead in the water. But the fans have got this one right. Adomah is 30-years-old and is no better than Matt Ritchie – the player Newcastle were supposedly going to jettison to make the Townsend deal happen. Adomah just doesn’t make any sense to us at all.
