Newcastle may not have done as much transfer business as they would have liked in this window, but they still have time to add some extra quality to the squad.

They should look no further than Real Betis striker Loren Moron.

Even though the Daily Mail have reported that the Magpies could potentially finalise a deal for West Brom forward Salomon Rondon today, there is no harm in adding to the strike force.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have claimed in their print edition (30/7) that West Ham have a strong interest in the La Liga goal demon, but this should not matter to United as they are more than capable of swooping for the Spaniard themselves.

Moron may have a £22.3 million release clause which is beyond Newcastle’s reach at the moment, but there is the option of taking him on loan for the season, which would be far cheaper for them.

United need a striker to link up with Yoshinori Muto and bring the best out of him, and there is no better player to do that than one who netted 24 goals during the 2017/2018 campaign.

Their potential combination up front would be lethal – and with the possible addition of Rondon as well, Newcastle would be racking the goals up for fun.

Moron may have played predominantly in Spain’s third tier – which is obviously not the most competitive – but he has an eye for goal that Benitez, who will be able to use his contacts to get a detailed report on the hitman, could really do with in his frontline.

However, he did bag seven goals when he returned to La Liga, which is not an easy feat with big clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid in the same league – so his attacking threat should be taken seriously.

United need to get in on the act and jump to the front of the queue to swoop for the goalscorer, in what would be the ultimate masterstroke by Benitez.
