Newcastle United must rescue Danny Welbeck from Arsenal in order to get their ideal new forward this summer.

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that the 27-year-old had an uncertain future at the Gunners and was facing an exit from the club due to his side needing to trim the squad after completing their main transfer business.

The national newspaper goes on to state that Welbeck is likely to struggle to be selected for the Gunners next season and this should see the Magpies make a rescue attempt by signing him and providing him with regular football.

Rafa Benitez is in need of welcoming a new forward this summer as the Magpies struggled in front of goal last season.

The Magpies managed to register only 39 goals in 38 league games and Ayoze Perez, who can hardly be described as clinical, finished at the club’s top goalscorer.

Welbeck is the ideal new forward for the Magpies to recruit as he has previously proven his ability to score in the Premier League.

The speedy 27-year-old, who can be played as an out-and-out forward as well as on the wing, has scored 41 goal in the 198 appearances he has made in England’s top-flight.

While his goal return might not have supporters drooling it’s worth noting that a lot of the games he has featured in during recent seasons have seen him utilised as a winger, which has effected his ability to regularly score.

Also given this frustration of being stuck out on the wing then it’s likely that the 27-year-old is chomping at the bit to prove that he can be a Premier League side’s number one choice in front of goal as that will likely help him continue to be selected for England duty.

This factor could see the 27-year-old up his performances compared to his recent displays at Arsenal and see his goal return noticeably improved if signed by the Magpies.

Given that Arsenal could be looking to get rid of Welbeck and the fact his contract is set to expire next summer, then the Magpies could realistically agree a very respectable deal for his services which could be within their reach.

This all means that the Magpies must attempt to rescue the proven Premier League scorer as he reportedly is facing an exit from the Emirates as it would get them their ideal new forward this summer.
