Newcastle United are said to be unlikely to sign free agent centre-back Diego Reyes this summer after entering the hunt for his signature, and some fans have taken to Twitter to react to the update.
As reported by Chronicle reporter Chris Waugh on Twitter, the Magpies look unlikely to win the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, with Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce in pole position.
Waugh further claimed that Premier League rivals West Ham were in the hunt for the 53-cap Mexico international, who has just left Porto after five years at the Primeira Liga champions.
Free agent Diego Reyes has been looked at by #nufc – but at this stage a deal is looking unlikely. Mexico international also has interest from West Ham & Fenerbahce, with the Turkish side favourites at the moment to sign ex-Porto centre-back

Thought this guy would be too expensive. Ashley can’t be expected to finance this mega deal.

Why is that club unable to conclude transfer deals. Every single link is always, always, always comes to nothing. #NUFC #jokeclub

OPINION
Newcastle fans are not happy, but who can blame them? This summer has been an absolute shambles so far for the Magpies, and it is likely to get worse as the window rumbles towards deadline day in less than a month’s time. These supporters were expecting big things from the club after their impressive return to the top-flight, but instead Mike Ashley is once again putting them through hell as he tightens the purse strings for no apparent reason. Missing out on deals like this, which would cost the club no transfer fee, only serves to rile up these fans even further, and many have now seemingly written off their chances next season.
