Newcastle legend Faustino Asprilla could be heading back to Newcastle after losing a World Cup bet with Alan Shearer.

Ahead of the England v Colombia Round of 16 game, Asprilla offered Shearer a bet – the former England striker would have to travel to Colombia for a barbecue if Asprilla’s former side beat the Three Lions in Russia.

If England won, Asprilla would have to return for a barbecue on Tyneside.

Shearer accepted and appeared quick to claim his prize after the game, when he posted the following on his personal Twitter page.

Another Newcastle legend, Rob Lee, asked Asprilla why he wasn’t answering his phone after England beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties in what was a pretty hostile match.

Asprilla replied that he was “busy packing”.

Asprilla might be one of the few Colombian footballers welcome at Newcastle over the next few days, after their national side were roundly slammed after their display in Russia.

They tried everything to get a reaction from the England players after going behind to a Harry Kane penalty, and even tried to put the England captain off his spot-kick by scuffing the penalty spot up.

England eventually triumphed though in a dramatic penalty shootout and it means Shearer will be hosting the all-star BBQ.
