Newcastle United are in talks with Turkish side Sivasspor about midfielder Henri Saivet, according to Fanatik.

The Turkish publication claim that the Magpies are demanding £1.7million for the attacking midfielder’s services while Sivasspor are keen to only loan the player.

Fanatik report that Bursaspor are also in the hunt to sign Saivet but that talks with Sivasspor over the midfielder are still ongoing.

OPINION

While Saivet has two European sides interested in his services, it seems neither has made a move to match the players very cheap £1.7million price tag. While the Magpies did let the midfielder spend last season on loan at Sivasspor, it would be in their best interest to get him permanently off their books this summer. The  Chronicle previously claimed that the Magpies had offered the 27-year-old who earns £35,000-a-week at the club to several European clubs in order to drum up interest, but it seems they’re not getting the desired response as of yet. While it’s always nice to get a transfer fee for a player the Magpies just need to get rid of Saivet due to his lucrative wage. The midfielder is clearly surplus to requirements at the club and the Magpies don’t want to be committed to paying his bumper wage until the end of his contract. The 27-year-old’s current deal still has a significant amount of time left to run on it with it worryingly not expiring until 2021.
