Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing West Ham teenager Domingos Quina, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper’s live transfer blog (Wednesday, 14:00) states that the Magpies will have to compete with Leeds United for the central midfielder’s services as the Championship side have already been in contact with the Hammers about signing Quina.

The Daily Mirror report that even though Quina is rated as one of Portugal’s best prospects he has largely been limited to making appearances in the cup for the Hammers.

OPINION

The highly-rated teen would be a promising signing for the Magpies to make even though he doesn’t seem likely to instantly impact theclub’sĀ  first-team if signed this summer. The Mirror claim that Quina needs more regular first-team football in order to further his career and he wouldn’t be guaranteedĀ that if he joined the Magpies. The Hammers are no doubt open to the idea of selling their promising talent this summer as the player’s contract expires in June 2019 and they’d want to get a fee for his services if possible. Quina has struggled to feature for the Hammers ever since joining the club in 2016 as he has only been allowed to feature six times for the first-team. All of these appearances have come in cup competitions with him never featuring in the Premier League and he has not exactly made the most of his minutes either. Quina played against Arsenal in the League Cup last season and really appeared to have a hard time coping with playing against the Gunners.
