Newcastle United are days away from announcing Kenedy as a Magpie, according to a journalist from the Daily Mail.

Lee Clayton, the publication’s head of sport, revealed via his official Twitter account that a one-year loan deal for the Brazilian winger is due to go through this week and names Rafa Benitez as the man who is key to the transfer.

The 22-year-old spent last term on loan at St James’ Park where he impressed from the off with a number of fine displays and his arrival stimulated a surge up the table when the side had looked in trouble.

Kenedy scored two goals and two assists for Newcastle in his last stint in the North East and will undoubtedly be looking to improve on that this time around.

OPINION:

This is a great move by Benitez, the only question surrounding Kenedy’s return is why it is not on a permanent deal. The Daily Mail’s update only gives the basic details behind the transfer but there really ought to be an option to buy in the small print because if the Brazilian can improve again on the form he showed last season, there will undoubtedly be a host of clubs sniffing around for him next summer. The effect that Kenedy had on the side upon his arrival from Stamford Bridge last time around was astonishing as he breathed life into an XI which had gone stale and was bereft of ideas and thrust going forward. Kenedy instigated their resurgence in the Premier League and without him at the club, they could have been closer to the relegation zone than they were in the end. The midfield of Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame, and Matt Ritchie suddenly began to link up with the attackers as they became a very different prospect after Christmas and Kenedy was key to that.
