Newcastle United are interested in a deal for Liverpool striker Danny Ings this summer, according to the Mirror

The newspaper report that the 25-year-old forward has requested to leave the Reds in search of regular game time following his return from a second-successive serious knee injury.

The Mirror claim that the Magpies are now in the hunt to sign the one-time England international, with Crystal Palace also said to be in the running for his signature.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Absolutely.

The club’s number one priority this summer must be to sign a striker after their troubles in front of goal last season saw them net just 39 goals across the whole Premier League season.

Ings would be a brilliant signing in that position for Rafa Benitez, with the 25-year-old having good Premier League experience while being able to lead the line on his own.

Reports have suggested that Liverpool will not ask for a prohibitive fee for Ings, who manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to remain on Merseyside, and that will help Mike Ashley come around to the thought of signing the striker.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Ings will definitely leave Anfield this summer, and Newcastle look to be in a good position to pounce.

The issue here will be owner Ashley, with Benitez needing to seek his approval for any deal above the £10million mark, which this one certainly will be.

As long as Ashley is on board then the Magpies have a good shot at securing Ings, who would surely be keen on a move to St. James’ Park.
