Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback’s protracted loan move to Nottingham Forest has been finalised on Friday, according to a reliable journalist.

Daniel Taylor, chief football writer at the Guardian, reported on his personal Twitter account that Colback’s return to Forest, where he spent half of last season on loan, has finally gone through.

Taylor further claimed that the deal was an initial loan with an option to buy.

OPINION

Colback was always expected to leave Newcastle this summer, with the midfielder falling massively out of favour under Rafa Benitez last summer. The 28-year-old spent half of last season languishing in the reserves, collecting his reported wage packet of £40,000-a-week, a move which angered Benitez massively. It had looked like the Magpies would find themselves in a similar situation this time around, but Colback has finally agreed another loan exit. His spell at Forest last season was a successful one, and this is a deal which suits all parties well. Taylor does not state whether this is a season-loan loan, but it is expected to be, and that could mean that Forest get their man next summer for free, with Colback’s Newcastle contract set to expire in 2019. For Newcastle, this will not be a loss, with Colback operating far below the level required to play in the first-team at St. James’ Park.
