Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor are confident of agreeing a year-long loan deal for Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, according to Fotomac

The Turkish newspaper, as translated by Turkish Football, report that Trabzonspor have tabled an offer with an option to buy included.

Fotomac claim that new club boss Unai Karaman is keen to work with the DR Congo international, who looks set to leave Newcastle this summer after three seasons.

Good move for Newcastle United?

No, absolutely not.

The club have always been adamant that they will not sanction a loan deal for Mbemba this summer unless it was a final resort in the closing days of the window.

By agreeing to a loan exit, Rafa Benitez will be left with one less player and no money to spend on reinforcements, making this a lose-lose deal for the club.

Yes, they would be getting a fee some way down the line, but the priority must be with bolstering Benitez’s budget this summer in order to allow the club to be competitive this season.

Likely to happen?

An exit is most definitely on the cards for Mbemba, but it is doubtful that this particular deal will be the one that sees him leave St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have been in talks with Porto and Anderlecht over a permanent deal for the 23-year-old, and the club will no doubt pursue such an agreement in the coming weeks.

Only if they reach the end of the transfer window with Mbemba still at the club would they even consider a loan exit, and that is unlikely to happen anyway.
