The agent of Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro has claimed that his client would be best suited to the Premier League amid reported interest from Newcastle.

Italian outlet Calciomercato previously claimed that the Magpies have made contact with the Bianconeri about a move for the Italy international.

An exit from Juventus is thought to be likely for the midfield enforcer who has fallen down the pecking order in Turin, and his agent Carlo Volpi has now addressed those Newcastle claims, admitting that a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

Speaking to Il Bianconero, he said: “It would be very difficult to stay in Italy for those who leave Juve, it would be a step back. The most suitable football for the characteristics of Stefano is in England, but there is significant interest coming from Spain. But I repeat: today we are far from an agreement, it will be the next few weeks to make everything clearer.”

OPINION

This is a promising development for Newcastle as they look to strengthen this summer. Sturaro would be a brilliant signing, with his experience at Juventus being crucial if they want to climb the table next season. The Italy international would add some much-needed steel to the Magpies midfield, and as his agent says, would be perfectly suited to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League. While Volpi does not address the Newcastle interest directly, his admission that they may look to seal a move to England is very exciting in itself. There have been no other English clubs linked with the 25-year-old as of yet, meaning Newcastle may well be in pole position for his signature if they do take that decision. Things will surely become more clear in the coming weeks, and until then the focus at the club must be on manager Rafa Benitez and a new deal for the Spaniard.
