Sevilla manager Pablo Machin is considering swooping for Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The Spanish publication claim that Machin, who worked with the Magpies enforcer at Girona, is considering the possibility of signing Lejeune as he knows the system the manager likes to play after their previous time together.

Estadio Deportivo report that the Spanish side will find it difficult to acquire the 27-year-old’s services as he is an important player at St James Park and because the Magpies will likely respond to any interest by increasing his price tag.

Good Move for Newcastle United?

After a shaky start to life as a Magpies player, Lejeune more than justified the club spending £8.7million, according to Sky Sports, in the summer of 2017 by submitting some decent performances.

The 27-year-old enforcer has established a rock solid partnership with Jamaal Lascelles at the back and the duo need to be kept together as long as possible.

Lejeune featured 24 times in his debut campaign and while Sevilla may be willing to hand the Magpies a quick profit, the club can’t afford to let the defender being reunited with his old boss just yet.

The centre-back continued to improve as the season went on and it’s an exciting thought that he could offer even more in the next campaign.

Likely to happen?

Lejeune is referred to as one of many options that Sevilla are looking at, so once the Magpies take a tough stance and hike up his price tag they should seek other players.

While the enforcer will no doubt be flattered by his former boss’ interest in him, he appears happy where he is and won’t be quickly to uproot his life after only recently joining the club.

This seems like a story that will amount to nothing as it’s clear that Lejeune won’t be on Rafa Benitez’s chopping block this summer, if anything his importance to the team will grow in the summer.
