Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez will try to call in favours from some of the continent’s bigger sides as he seeks to make the most of loan deals this summer, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper report that Benitez will be looking to strike shrewd deals in the market, rather than blowing big money on players with big reputations.

The Chronicle claim that Benitez has some ‘interesting’ names lined up for the Magpies this summer, with the Spaniard hoping to complete deals quickly unlike the shambles of last summer.

OPINION

Benitez was never going to look to splash out a massive amount of money on big-name players, with his transfer policies always having been a bit more street-smart than that. It does look like he will delve into the loan market again this summer, just as he did last summer, and that could work out well for the Magpies as they secure some quality players who are maybe not getting enough minutes at some big clubs. However, the issue was never the fact that Benitez was looking to spend massive money on big players, just that he needs to be backed with the right money and have the ability to spend it where he sees fit. The system in place at Newcastle currently sees him forced into a ridiculous process of bureaucracy when he wants to spend more than £10million, and that cannot be in place if Newcastle want to be successful this summer.
