Usually when a Newcastle player receives huge praise in the media it is news that can be celebrated but after Aidy Boothroyd drooled over Adam Armstrong there shouldn’t be a balloon in sight.

The England Under-21 boss heaped praise on the Magpies’ 21-year-old attacker for his recent displays for his nation at the Toulon tournament.

“He has found his pathway blocked at this level, but when I called him to ask him to come and play here, he could not have been more enthusiastic,” stated Boothroyd, as quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It has probably been frustrating for him, not getting picked for squads, but he has come in and done brilliantly.

“He has probably been our best player at the tournament and I cannot speak highly enough of him.”

Armstrong has earned Boothroyd’s plaudits by scoring one goal and grabbing an assist in his two outings in the tournament so far and this has no doubt not gone unnoticed by many people.

It was previously stated in a report by the Chronicle that they were willing to hear offers for their 21-year-old forward and his performances at the international tournament would have done nothing to stop that.

Mike Ashley is no doubt even more keen to sanction the academy prospect’s exit as his impressive displays and huge praise from his manager are no doubting increasing his value.

Armstrong was already likely to have many admirers submitting offers for his services as he scored nine goals in 21 outings for Blackburn Rovers while on loan at the League One club in the second half of the 2017/18 season.

The 21-year-old helped a rampant rovers escaped England’s third-tier of football to ensure a place in the Championship for next season and there will be plenty of clubs lining up to grab his services.

Therefore it’s very likely that once the gushing praise of Armstrong reaches Ashley’s ears, he will instantly be smelling the cash from Armstrong’s potential sale and upping his desire to see the forward exit St James Park sooner.
