As everyone is well aware, Newcastle United need to bring in a new striker this summer.

The Magpies struggled massively in front of goal in 2017/18, scoring just 39 goals in 38 games despite ending up finishing in an impressive tenth place.

If Rafa Benitez wants to take his team into a position where they can challenge for a spot in Europe, then they will need that to change drastically.

The Magpies will need a striker who can come in and give them 10 goals at the very least next season if they want to rise up the table, and that should be their number one priority this summer.

The best way of ensuring a striker can come in and perform at Premier League level is obviously to shop around among rivals, with there being several good options around that the Magpies could swoop for.

One that has not been mentioned yet is Arsenal fringe striker Danny Welbeck.

While the England international has not necessarily been prolific for the Gunners, much of that has to be laid at the feet of Arsene Wenger, who has tended to play the 27-year-old out of position.

That has actually been a massive issue for Welbeck throughout his career, with the speedy forward also stuck out in wide areas during his time at Manchester United.

No one has had the faith in him to play him as an out-and-out striker for an extended run of games, and that is all that Welbeck would need to start banging in the goals.

There can be no denying his finishing ability, and his international record of 15 goals in 37 games shows you what he can do when playing in the right system.

Newcastle would be the perfect place for him to finally be deployed as a striker for the season, with his pace and 6ft frame [Transfermarkt] allowing him to play up front on his own.

And, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette ahead of him in the pecking order at the Emirates, you would think both club and player would be open to a move away for a reasonable price.

All in all it is a move that makes perfect sense, and one that Newcastle must pursue in the coming weeks.
