Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic could not prevent Serbia from crashing out of the World Cup against Brazil on Wednesday evening, and some fans have taken to Twitter to slam him for his display.
Mitrovic had several good chances for the Balkan nation over the 90 minutes as Brazil initially struggled to break them down, but a goal from Paulinho broke the deadlock before Thiago Silva headed home a second as it finished 2-0.
The 23-year-old forward started all three games at the tournament for his country, scoring one goal in their second game against Switzerland, which they lost 2-1.
A section of Newcastle fans have now taken to Twitter to assess the Serbian’s display, with many in agreement with the club’s decision to sell him on this summer after a poor performance.
Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets:

Mitrovic could go the whole season without scoring a goal then score a goal against us in the last game of the season and people will still say Rafa was wrong #NUFC

OPINION
It seems as though the Newcastle fan base is split on the Mitrovic issue, but many now look to be coming round to the idea that manager Rafa Benitez is correct in his decision to freeze out the Serbia international. Mitrovic is a goal threat, there is little doubting that, but there are too many areas of his game which remain bang average, and that is not good enough for Newcastle if they want to be challenging for a European place. His movement in particular is poor, and he looks to be on the back foot most of the time. Newcastle need a striker who will be in the right place at the right time, and be eager to get on the end of things. Mitrovic is unfortunately not that man, and the decision to sell for £20million looks to be the right one, should it happen.
