Newcastle have opened fresh talks with Anderlecht over the sale of goalkeeper Matz Sels as he looks to seal the move by Sunday night at the latest, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian publication claim the two clubs resumed negotiations yesterday (Monday) over a deal that all parties want completed by Sunday of this week.

Het Nieuwsblad report that Sels, 26, wants to start training with Anderlecht when they return to pre-season next Monday after a successful loan spell at the Belgian outfit last season.

OPINION

To his credit, Sels is super-keen to push through a return to Anderlecht and wants to get the deal done as soon as possible. As reported by the Chronicle, he has agreed to take a big pay cut to complete a transfer from Newcastle this summer two years after joining the club. The goalkeeper wants to play regular football and is willing to forsake cash in his own bank account to do so. Not all players can say the same. Sels is entering his peak years and has prioritised job satisfaction and career development. Not for him a place on the sidelines playing second fiddle and his career stagnating. That would certainly be the case were he to stay at Newcastle, who signed Martin Dubravka on a permanent deal this summer and already have Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot as back-up, as well as rising star Freddie Woodman waiting in the wings. There is no sense in the Premier League club having a fifth senior keeper on their books and a transfer is best for all parties.
