Six players will join Newcastle United later in the summer after agreeing scholarship deals at the club’s academy, it has been announced.

The Premier League club announced on their official website that Will Brown, Tai Ebanks, Lucas Gamblin, Kain Reed, George Rounsfell and Jude Swailes will join the club on a full-time basis next season after leaving school in the coming weeks.

All six were regulars for Newcastle Under-16s last season, while Brown, Gamblin, Reed and Rounsfell all made their debuts for Dave Watson’s under-18 team.

OPINION

It is that time of year when club’s reshape their youth team as well as senior squad. The difference is that the whirlwind of arrivals and departures happen almost simultaneously and are not played out to a backdrop of intense speculation and social media opinion. However, the six imminent Newcastle arrivals will hope to hit the big time and progress to the point where they are offered professional contracts by the club and worthy of the online attention of those who worship the club. That is the aim for every scholar, with the smart ones realising they have achieved nothing yet and that the hard work is only just beginning. As recently-released second-year scholars Kieren Aplin, Isaac Gamblin, Mace Goodridge, Jack Robson and Kurtis Russell can attest, there are no guarantees at the elite Premier League outfits. Competition is intense as top young talents push to make it on the big stage. Good luck to them all.
