Newcastle United fans were far from impressed by their club after a report claimed the Magpies were attempting to hijack Swansea City midfielder Roque Mesa’s move to Sevilla.

The Magpies, according to Sevilla.abc, had enquired about the midfield maestro’s situation despite Sevilla having an option to buy him ready to be activated after he spent some of his 2017/18 campaign on loan with them.

The Spanish club’s option to buy the player was confirmed via Sevilla’s official website when he arrived at the club on loan in January.

Yet despite looking poised to make his move permanent, as reported by Football-Espana, the Magpies still apparently attempted to hijack the potential deal.

This decision caused fans to be confused and deliver a resounding verdict when a large majority of Magpies supporters took to Twitter to state they simply didn’t want the player.

One tweeted to ask why the Magpies would even want a player that flopped at a relegated side as he wasn’t even good enough for them, while another claimed the club was likely to be linked to Lee Cattermole at this rate.

Mesa featured 11 times in the Premier League for the Swans before being shipped off to Spain on loan in January where he played seven times in La Liga for Sevilla.
