Newcastle United must take their chances and sign Wilfried Bony from Swansea City in order for the once prolific forward to be the club’s new number nine.

The Swans, who suffered relegation from the Premier League in their latest season, are set to listen to offers for the 29-year-old according to BBC Sport.

While the broadcaster doesn’t share the price the Welsh club are looking for after signing him for £12million last August and the forward having less than a stellar season, there’s a bargain to be had no doubt.

Bony only managed four goals in 20 outings for the Swans in his 2017/18 campaign but this is not a fair reflection of his clinical ability in front of goal.

The 29-year-old suffered countless injuries and played for a side that struggled to provide him with opportunities in front of goal, which caused his numbers to look woeful in hindsight.

However Bony has previously proven himself to be a capable goalscorer in the Premier League having scored 36 goals in his 115 appearances.

Once again these numbers undersell his ability to net goals as 36 of his league outings came for Manchester City, a club where he was only given rare starts with him forced to try and constantly make the most of limited minutes on the pitch.

Yet the forward is capable of feasting on all the opportunities that are currently going to waste at St James Park and will soon have fans singing his name if signed.

Rafa Benitez’s side have no issues when it comes to creating chances but they lack a proven forward who will fire them home, Bony is more than capable of being the player they desire.

Therefore after having his once prolific Premier League career sidetracked by injuries and poor transfer decisions, the Magpies should swoop to make Bony their new forward as he will succeed at the club as their new number nine.
