Newcastle United must swoop for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma as he is the perfect enforcer to replace Chancel Mbemba at the club.

Belgian news outlet La Dernière Heure previously claimed that Mbemba had Anderlecht, Club Brugge and Standard Liege all vying for his services with the Chronicle revealing in May that Rafa Benitez was set to sell the defender.

This means that the Magpies are in need of a new centre-back in this window, one that is not only capable of being cover but one who will keep Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune on their toes regarding their first-team status.

Luckily for Benitez the perfect fix to the void that is soon to be left by Mbemba’s departure is easily identifiable as Chelsea’s Zouma is an obvious player to welcome to St James Park.

The powerful 6ft 3in tall (Transfermarket) enforcer regularly featured for Stoke City in his 2017/18 campaign while on loan at the club and showcased his potential to be a solid defender at the back.

The 23-year-old is surprisingly comfortable with the ball at his feet, strong in the air and already knows England’s top-flight very well which means he would settle in quickly at the Magpies.

It also very likely that Zouma could be on the move as according to the latest report by RMC Sport the defender is still waiting to hear on the Blues’ plans for next season which means his future is currently uncertain at the club.

Until the defender is told otherwise after being shipped out on loan in his latest campaign, the centre-back could find himself packing his bags in order to depart Stamford Bridge once again.

This is where the Magpies must swoop into secure his services as his arrival would significantly bolster Benitez’s current defensive options, as he can also feature at right-back, while covering for the inevitable loss of Mbemba.

Therefore Benitez should waste no time pursuing Zouma while his Chelsea status is unconfirmed as it could see his side land exactly the type of player needed to fill the void in their team.
