Newcastle United fans have reacted with excitement and scepticism on Twitter amid reports their club are in £20million pursuit of Crystal Palace attacker Andros Townsend.
The Guardian claim the north-east giants have indicated to the Londoners they are willing to spend a club-record sum to re-sign the £26-year-old this summer.
The Mirror have gone even further and reported that Newcastle have already tabled a £20million bid for Townsend that has been rejected by Palace.
It is said the Londoners are holding out for a higher price in the hope of a bidding war between Palace and the England international’s other suitors Leicester City.
Newcastle fans have reacted en masse on social media to the reported strong interest in a player who spent six months at their club in the first half of 2016.
Townsend performed well under Rafael Benitez and many supporters would love to have him back, while others are suspicious as to whether owner Mike Ashley would sanction a bid of £4million more than the club-record fee spent on Michael Owen.

I dunno what's more crazy. That we've allegedly bid £20 million for Andros Townsend or that Crystal Palace aren't willing to sell at that price. #NUFC

Id take Townsend to play left wing, he knows how to play with Ayoze and Mitrovic. If they get Rondon and bring back Armstrong its all good #NUFC

Rubbish! Sold him for £14 million to then buy him back for £6 million more after two years, I'm afraid Ashley doesn't work like that.
