Ki Sung-yueng has reportedly had a medical with Newcastle United ahead of a potential switch – and a selection of the club’s supporters on Twitter seem overjoyed with the thought of him signing.
Chronicle’s chief football writer Lee Ryder revealed on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the central midfielder could become the latest Magpies signing this summer, with a medical already completed.
The 29-year-old left Swansea City this summer after they suffered relegation, but could seal an automatic return to the Premier League by moving to St James’ Park
Some Newcastle fans on social media are buzzing about the thought of maybe bringing in the South Korea international for next season.
Nothing but Newcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets:

Tidy. People have such short memories, just look at Diame as evidence of how players can grow under Rafas control.

Ki is a really good signing on a free transfer if it all goes through. He is good on the ball and will fit into the way we play! #NUFC

OPINION
A large amount of Newcastle supporters appear to be over the moon that pass master Ki could be the latest addition to the squad and they have every right to think like that. He is a proven performer in the Premier League and ended up leaving Swansea after making 162 appearances across all competitions. The technically gifted midfielder helps control the tempo of matches with his passing and helps provide a defensive screen in front of the back four. Ki should be able to make an instant impact in Rafael Benitez’s squad given his previous experience and even played alongside current Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey when they were both at Swansea. He is now in the peak years of his career and deserves to be playing flight football, something he would get the chance at St James’ Park. Ki could definitely add some extra quality to the squad moving forward and would be a welcomed addition, but it’s concerning that the club are yet to go out and spend big money.
