OPINION

Isaac Hayden has no hope of regularly being involved with Newcastle United’s first-team next season and it’s hard to see when that situation will ever chance.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder made 29 appearances in the recently finished season across all competitions and didn’t look worthy of being a regular first-team player for the Magpies in the Premier League.

In fact the majority of his minutes in the league last season came in the opening weeks of the campaign, before Rafa Benitez quickly realised he had better more reliable options to pick from.

Hayden’s axe was a justified one and with him not getting many chances to feature in the second half of the season, it seems obvious that the club should cash in on his services.

The defensive midfielder may still only be 23-years-old but with the Magpies needing to dramatically strengthen their team in order to achieve much more in their next campaign, Hayden should be sacrificed to raise funds.

While his potential sale won’t be a lucrative game changer with him contracted to St James Park until 2021, an interested party would stump up a respectable enough fee to aid the Magpies’ cause.

The Chronicle when analysing every player’s future St James Park stated that Hayden will want first-team assurances this summer after losing his regular place in Benitez’s starting eleven and it’s simply a request the club shouldn’t meet.

Therefore instead of having the 23-year-old unhappily wasting away on the bench, the club should try to sell Hayden this summer by getting him to pack his bags and go elsewhere.
