A third Premier League defeat in a row will have left Rafa Benitez with plenty to think about after Newcastle were easily beaten by Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

United’s end of season malaise continued with Roberto Pereyra and Andre Grey scoring inside the first half-hour to put the Hornets on their way to a first win in seven matches as Benitez’s side produced a laughable display before the break.

It could have been worse had Martin Dubravka not kept out Troy Deeney’s penalty with a superb double save, also repelling the home side on numerous other occasions during a busy first period for the on-loan Slovakian goalkeeper.

Ayoze Perez eventually hauled Newcastle back into the game shortly after the interval, but efforts to secure an equaliser were in vain and Benitez approaches Wednesday’s visit to Wembley to face Tottenham need his players to show some form of reaction in the final two matches of the campaign.
