Tottenham should blow Newcastle out of the water to sign Martin Dubravka this summer.

Spurs are in need of a new goalkeeper to replace Michel Vorm, the longstanding number two whose deal expires next month.

There is the possibility that Dutchman Vorm could sign an extension, but Tottenham should instead concentrate on landing a younger keeper who could properly challenge Hugo Lloris for the number one spot.

The Spurs captain is virtually part of the furniture at the club, and has the respect of all his teammates as well as manager Mauricio Pochettino.

But Lloris is 31 and does not cut the same commanding presence as he did a few years back. He took a right pounding from Spurs fans following a string of unforced errors in the second half of the recent domestic season.

It would benefit Lloris and Tottenham if the club had a superior back-up to Vorm.

Dubravka is just that man. Standing at 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt), he is excellent at dealing with high balls, has sharp reflexes and is proficient with the ball at his feet.

He is also proven in the Premier League after making a huge impact at Newcastle following his arrival in the January window.

The Chronicle report that Rafael Benitez has been impressed with the Slovakia international and is keen to exercise the £4million clause in his loan from Sparta Prague to sign him permanently.

It is said the Magpies retain first option on the keeper, but a final decision has yet to be taken amid doubts over the manager’s future.

Spurs can take advantage of the black and white hole to strike with a major transfer move.

Dubravka’s release clause is a bargain for such an accomplished player. He could be a brilliant signing for the London giants.
