The position of Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United continues to attract plenty of speculation, with the experienced boss locked in negotiations with the board regarding a new contract.
Mike Ashley still has his majority share in the Tyneside club up for sale and, with a deal unlikely to be completed before the start of next season, will have to fund any transfers that Benitez wants to make in the summer market.
In recent years Newcastle have struggled to financially match Benitez’s ambition and he wants that to change, so much so that The Daily Mirror states he wants a written agreement and guarantees after being let down in previous windows.
Benitez has already started to draft a list of targets, which includes eyeing permanent deals for current loanees Kenedy and Martin Dubravka, and a new striker is also high on his wish-list after seeing the Magpies struggle for consistency in front of goal this season.
