Newcastle Untied are set to enjoy a busy summer of transfers in the coming months and one position they need to get sorted is in goal.

The Magpies must ensure that they have strength in depth all over the park and ensuring a healthy squad could see them in the mix for a top-10 finish.

The Chronicle reports that Rafael Benitez’s side are “highly likely” to active a £4million option-to-buy clause in the contract of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who has impressed during his loan with them this season

The 29-year-old has been a great addition since he joined in January and having him at the club on a permanent basis makes sense.

That leaves Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow as the understudies in goal, but Newcastle can do better than that.

They should plot a move for Tottenham goalkeeper and Premier League veteran Michel Vorm, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Newcastle should be lining up a swoop to land the 34-year-old and someone of his experience would definitely be a welcomed addition.

Vorm has stepped in well for Spurs when required this season and can definitely still have a couple more years in the top flight, with his previous stint at Swansea City showing he has the quality to be a number one option.

The Holland international is an excellent shot-stopper, very comfortable in possession, and has the know-how that would make him a strong player in the squad.

A dream scenario would be to have Dubravka and Vorm in direction competition for the number one shirt next season.

If they both moved to St James’ Park it could trigger the departures of both Elliot and Darlow, but it would be a positive reshuffle in the squad for the club.

Newcastle can considerably improve a key area of the park without splashing out huge transfer sums and it may take some smart business
