Newcastle United have witness first-hand this season how well the loan system can work, with both Kenedy and Martin Dubravka proving to be huge signings in the second half of the season.

Manager Rafael Benitez should hope to receive financial backing in the summer to add some high-profile names on a permanent basis, but there are definitely still some gems out there that can be approached for loans.

The Magpies should chance their arm with Premier League champions Manchester City and try to take their rising star Phil Foden for the entire 2018/19 campaign.

Foden is one of the rising stars in the top flight and helped the England Under-17s side win the World Cup last year.

The central midfielder has managed to creep into the Man City first team this campaign with 10 senior appearances in all competitions, but is still yet to fully cement his spot in a competitive squad.

It would make perfect sense for Man City to send him out on loan to experience regular first-team football and Benitez should be straight on the phone if that become a possibility.

Foden, 17, is a pocket-sized playmaker that is technically extremely gifted and has not looked out of place when lining up alongside superstars such as Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

The 5ft 7in dynamo has a huge potential to become a Premier League star and would light up St James’ Park if given the chance.

He has shown that he has an incredible range of passing and is mature beyond his years, while he also has an eye for goal.

Newcastle need to try give the midfielder a platform to improve their game and there is every chance he could reward them with some classy displays in the centre of the park.
