OPINION
De Silvestri would be an excellent signing for Newcastle, who are in dire need of full-back cover. Jesus Gamez and Massadio Haidara are both leaving this summer, and the Magpies could do with a reliable performer who can slot in on either flank to provide cover and competition for Paul Dummett and De Andre Yedlin. Certainly, De Silvestri has a track record that demands respect. Capped six times by Italy, the 30-year-old has just had an excellent season for Torino. He is more than just a decent defender, he also provides a huge threat in the opposition third, scoring seven goals and supplying four assists in 2017-18. Those are impressive numbers for a player who has also had lengthy spells at other major Serie A clubs Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Lazio. With 281 league appearances in the demanding Italian top flight, De Silvestri is an experienced and quality performer.
