Newcastle United will dispatch scouts to the World Cup despite having identified the majority of their transfer targets already, according to the Chronicle.

The local newspaper stated that due to Rafa Benitez’s nature targets have already been monitored for months before the summer transfer window opened earlier in May.

The Chronicle report that while the targets most likely to feature in Russia pre-date the tournament, Denmark’s Nicolai Jorgensen and England’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be two players assessed by the Magpies’ scouting team.

OPINION

While Rafa Benitez won’t be at the tournament watching on himself, the report above reveals he’ll be at home with his family, it’s good to see the Magpies continuing working hard to find new recruits. The report may downplay the fact the club are looking to find a whole host of players to report back on, but that’s something to celebrate. It seems Benitez has all his ducks lined up when it comes to deciding who he wants to sign in this window and that he is simply waiting for Mike Ashley to give him the funds to go get some business done. Hopefully the Magpies owner will be allowing the cash to be spent shortly as the Magpies do not want another window where all their business is conducted in the final days of the window. This tends to see the club miss out on first-choice targets and suffer in the season that follows as a result.
