Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has begun his plans for the summer transfer window and is targeting improvements for his attacking ranks, after the Magpies have struggled for consistency in front of goal this season.

Reports from Turkish outlet Miliyet confirmed that Newcastle scouts, along with representatives from Ligue 1 side Lyon, were in attendance for Galatasaray’s 2-0 victory over title rivals Besiktas at the weekend to watch Garry Rodrigues.

In in-form Cape Verde international performed to a high standard once again, scoring his side’s second goal, and The Chronicle added on their live blog that Newcastle’s scouts were left impressed by the performances of the winger.

Rodrigues boasts eight goals and nine assists this season, with the 27-year-old Dutch-born winger also said to be attracting interest from Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham, which could spark a bidding war.

Newcastle have been reported to have already seen two bids rejected by the Turkish title leaders, who are demanding around €20m for his signature.
