It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise that Newcastle United’s main problem this season has been in front of goal, but fortunately for them they’ve had the tactically astute manager Rafael Benitez to guide them to Premier League safety.

The Magpies are unlikely to get away with the same fortune next season in the top flight and definitely need to bring in at least one more striker to lead their attack during the summer transfer window.

Playmaker Ayoze Perez has top scored with eight goals in all competitions this term, but strikers Dwight Gayle (five) and Joselu (four) have fallen well below standards.

Benitez is the perfect man to get the club competing back around the top end of the table and he needs a talisman at the point of attack to help out.

Newcastle should consider turning their attention to West Ham ace Javier Hernandez, who could be a huge success story at St James’ Park if he ever joined.

News outlet ESPN reports that centre-forward Hernandez is looking to leave West Ham just a year into his time with them and has been searching for a new club.

It is understood that the Hammers will consider allowing his sale if they can recoup close to £16million for him, which is why Newcastle must swoop in quickly with his exit potentially on the cards.

Hernandez is a pocket-sized attacker that has good pace and most importantly a clinical touch in front of goal, something desperately missing from the current Benitez squad.

The Mexico international has managed eight goals in 33 appearances for West Ham this season without setting the world alight and he could certainly smash double figures next year if given the chance in England.

He is no stranger to the Premier League from his previous time with Manchester United and is exactly the type of high-profile signing in the summer that supporters could get excited about.
