Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish is the most likely player to sign for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to Football Whispers.

The transfer algorithm, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 3.4 out of 5 that the 22-year-old will move to St James’ Park, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.

Grealish is an attacking midfielder that has helped Villa reach the Championship play-offs this season, scoring three goals and supplying five assists along the way.

Villa manager Steve Bruce has even compared him to Newcastle and England icon Paul Gascoigne due to his quality on the pitch.

“Jack has a bit of a Gazza about him and I don’t mean off the pitch,” he said, as quoted but the Birmingham Mail in February.

“It is the way he naturally beats people. He is not that quick but he just gets away from people and seems to get even quicker when he is running with the ball.

Good move for Newcastle?

Grealish has been one of the stand out players for Villa this campaign and looks good enough to make a return to the Premier League next season, something he may get the chance to do if they come through the play-offs.

He is quite often at the heartbeat of his side’s attack and it would be interesting to see him battle Ayoze Perez for the number 10 jersey next season.

However, a far safer bet would be to invest in a proven top-flight performer that is guaranteed to make an impact.

Likely to happen?

Football Whispers has rated Grealish’s chances of joining Newcastle as fairly high, but there has to be question marks over whether he would leave his boyhood club or if the Premier League outfit could afford him.
