Newcastle United are likely to listen to offers for attacker Adam Armstrong in the summer, according to the Chronicle Live.

The newspaper claim that the 21-year-old was not part of Benitez’s future plans, despite the centre-forward having a successful spell at Blackburn Rovers this season.

The Chronicle Live report that Rovers manager Tony Mowbray wants to broker a permanent deal for Armstrong, and this has a chance of happening if a sell-on clause is included in the deal.

It is believed that Benitez will want to overhaul his striking department in the summer, but will find a way to do it without the 21-year-old.

Good move for Newcastle?

No.

Armstrong has been in prolific form this season for Blackburn Rovers in League One, scoring 9 goals in 20 league appearances, and that should at least see him handed a chance at St James’ Park next season.

The 21-year-old’s loan spell at Championship side Bolton in the first half of the current campaign, may not have seen him be clinical in front of goal but the Trotters were struggling to create chances for him.

Benitez knows he has to secure a forward capable of regularly scoring in the Premier League, but why does it have to be at the expense of Armstrong?

Likely to happen?

The report suggests that Benitez’s mind is made up as Armstrong never got an opportunity to regularly feature under the experienced manager, even when the Magpies were in the Championship.

The 21-year-old therefore seems destined to leave St James’ Park and with Blackburn Rovers already in pursuit of his signature, as it’s easy to the attacker wanting to have another spell at Ewood Park.
