Newcastle United have made contact over a move for Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes, according to a Russian-based journalist.

Alan Moore, reporting for Back Page Football, claims that a source close to the player has informed him that Tottenham and Roma have also made initial approaches over a move for the Netherlands international.

The source, who works for Promes’ agent’s Sports Entertainment Group, reports that Toon boss Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the 26-year-old winger, with Newcastle scouting Promes twice this season.

It is said that the speed demon will cost around £22million this summer.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Absolutely.

Promes has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in 38 games for Spartak, who finished in third in the Russian Premier League.

The Netherlands international has long been linked with a move to England, with his pace and power in wide areas looking to be a massive asset in the Premier League.

His versatility is also a massive bonus, with the 26-year-old able to play down the middle and on both wings as well.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Promes will leave Spartak this summer after spending four years at the club.

Whether Newcastle will be his next destination is anyone’s guess, but with Tottenham and Roma also interested, this hunt will not be easy for the Magpies.
