Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign Porto winger Yacine Brahimi this summer, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese outlet report that Premier League newcomers Wolves, led by former Porto boss Nuno Espirito Santo, are leading the chase, with Everton and Roma also interested.

A Bola report that the 28-year-old flyer has a release clause of £52.6million, having signed for the club for just £5.85million from Granada in 2014.

Brahimi has just one year left on his deal at Porto.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Yes.

Brahimi has long been linked with a move to the Premier League from Porto, where he has impressed massively since his move from La Liga four years ago.

The Algeria international scored 12 goals and supplied 10 assists in 49 games in all competitions this season, and averages around a goal every four games for the club overall.

Newcastle could do with a winger with that kind of output, although the deal would need to be struck for much lower than £52.6million to be worth it for the club.

Nothing but Newcastle rating: 7/10

Likely to happen?

At the quoted release clause price, no.

Newcastle’s record signing still remains Michael Owen at £16million in 2005, and there is no way they will be able to splurge over £50million on one player this summer.

However, with just one year left on Brahimi’s deal, that could see an exit being agreed at a much lower price, which could see the Toon in with a chance.
