Newcastle United fans on social media were not glad to hear that Martin Skrtel had reportedly been offered to them by Fenerbahce.
Turkish news outlet Fotomac claimed that in an attempt to clear their wage bill, Fenerbahce had offered the services of the 6ft 2in tall (Transfermarkt) to the Magpies.
It is believed that Skrtel, who has 97 caps for Slovakia, earned £3.5million this season which would see his weekly wage packet be in the region of £67,000-a-week.
While it was stated by Fotomac that Rafa Benitez’s team had previously been keen on the experienced 33-year-old centre-back last summer, there was no word on whether they would snap him up after being offered his services.
However Magpies fans vocally took to Twitter in their numbers to make it clear how they would respond to such an offer.
One supporter stated that simply didn’t want him at St James Park, while another was willing to take Skrtel on at the club if it was indeed 10 years ago.
The colossus centre-back comes with plenty of Premier League experience, having made 242 league appearances for Liverpool during his time at Anfield, but that wasn’t enough to convince Magpies fans on social media.
