Newcastle United fans on social media shared their sympathy for Queens Park Rangers after a report revealed that Steve McClaren was likely to be their new manager.
The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that after sacking Ian Holloway, QPR were set to appoint the former Magpies manager to be their next boss.
The newspaper claimed that McClaren was keen to work in British football again after leaving a position as a coaching consultant at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv in December.
It is believed that QPR owner Tony Fernandes is fond of the 57-year-old after his brief spell working as a coach under Harry Redknapp at the club in 2013.
The Daily Mail’s report goes on to state that McClaren experienced a difficult time at the Magpies when he was manager, a remark fans were quick to show they agreed with on Twitter.
One Magpies supporter tweeted that if they were a QPR fan they would be crying into their pint, while another revealed that they thought McClaren should write a book on how to sell yourself as it would be a best seller.
McClaren, 54, signed a three-year contract, as reported by the BBC, with the Magpies in June 2015 after the club avoided relegation but was sacked in March 2016.
