Newcastle United have plenty of work to do this summer as they look to significantly bolster their squad for next season’s Premier League campaign and a number of targets in the final third are being eyed.

The Magpies have struggled for consistency in front of goal this season and while a central striker is a priority, Rafael Benitez is also looking to improve the club’s effectiveness in the wide areas – which has led the interest in Galatasaray’s Garry Rodrigues.

Newcastle are said to have regularly scouted the in-form Cape Verde international during recent months but they can expect a fierce fight for his services, as Turkish outlet Fotosport claim Lyon are eyeing a €14m bid.

Like Newcastle, the Ligue 1 side scouted Rodrigues Galatasaray’s 2-0 win over Besiktas last weekend and were said to be impressed by the performances of the 27-year-old, who scored the second goal of the game to bolster his side’s title aspirations.
