Everton are preparing a £25million move for Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that the 24-year-old centre-back is now the subject of interest for three top-flight clubs, with big-hitters Chelsea and Tottenham having watched him this season.

The Mirror claim that Everton are now ready to splash out £25million to bring in Magpies mainstay Lascelles this summer, with the Toffees spending a similar amount on Michael Keane from Burnley a year ago.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Absolutely not.

Lascelles has been an absolute rock for the Magpies for several seasons now, and this campaign has proved that he has what it takes at the top level.

His power and pace at centre-back is such a big asset for Newcastle, and to lose that to a Premier League rival would be a massive blow that would take the wind out of their revival this season.

On top of his footballing ability, Lascelles is also a leader on and off the pitch, and they cannot afford to lose such a big dressing room influence this summer.

Likely to happen?

Luckily, you would think not.

Lascelles would surely have no reason to leave the club he loves so much for a side like Everton, who Newcastle will be looking to rival for a place in Europe next season.

The only thing that fans should be worried about is if Tottenham or Chelsea, who have also been linked, make a move for the 24-year-old.

Lascelles may find it hard to turn down such big clubs, and only then would the Magpies be in trouble.
