Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is locked in negotiations with the club’s board regarding a new contract and assurances around his transfer budget are set to play a key part in whether the experienced boss renews his deal.

Benitez is eyeing a variety of recruits across a number of different areas, with potential midfield options being said to include Sampdoria’s highly-coveted Belgium international Dennis Praet.

The Magpies are certainly not alone with their interest in the 23-year-old as it’s stated Juventus and Roma are also seeking a deal, while Gazzetta Dello Sport understands Sampdoria are looking to earn the highest possible sum for his services.

According to the report, Sampdoria know they will struggle to retain Praet’s services this summer but they’re looking to earn in excess of €26m, his current release-clause, by removing the figure from his contract or negotiating a raised amount.

Due to the price-tag, and the calibre of the teams battling Newcastle in the market, it seems unlikely that Benitez will be able to land this target in particular.
