Newcastle United are expected to sign goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a permanent deal from Sparta Prague, according to Sky Sports’ Pete Graves.

The reporter has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Magpies are set to sign the 29-year-old this summer after his successful loan stint at St James’ Park this season.

It is understood that both clubs are keen to wrap up the move and it’s “just a matter of time” before it goes ahead.

The Shields Gazette reported last week that Newcastle have now entered talks to sign the Slovakia international, as they look to activate a £3.5million release clause.

Dubravka impressed during his time in the Premier League to help Newcastle stay in the top flight and is a 6ft 3in colossus (source: Transfermrkt).

Good move for Newcastle?

Dubravka played a crucial role in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League and managed to hit the ground running immediately in English football.

He was part of a brilliant backline that doesn’t need a major overhaul going into next season, instead manager Rafael Benitez should invest in his forward line.

The Magpies look set to capture Dubravka on a permanent basis for a great price and he is in the peak years for a goalkeeper.

Likely to happen?

It will be an absolute travesty if the goalkeeper didn’t join Newcastle this summer, but it looks like this deal is going to happen and the formalities are just yet to be completed.
