Newcastle United would register an interest in Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek if the midfielder was made available this summer, according to a reliable journalist.

The Chronicle’s Chris Waugh assessed the Magpies chances of signing the 22-year-old central midfielder, who stands at 6ft 3in tall according to Transfermarkt, and believes they would be unlikely to succeed in capturing his services.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez, as stated by the Chronicle previously, likes Loftus-Cheek but there has been no officially reported offer from his side for the midfielder.

“Ruben Loftus-Cheek faces an uncertain future at Chelsea – with question marks over whether Antonio Conte’s successor will play him,” wrote Waugh on the Chronicle’s live blog (Tuesday, 13:10).

“Crystal Palace are desperate to get him back, and Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is also a fan of the midfielder’s ability.

“Should a move for Kenedy prove unattainable, particularly on loan, than Loftus-Cheek is an interesting option.

“Benitez wanted him both last summer and in January 2017, and the Spaniard has excellent contacts at Chelsea, I’d say this one looks unlikely at this stage, but if he was made available then I think Newcastle would register an interest.”

OPINION

The colossus midfielder would be an amazing signing, after staring in the Premier League for Crystal Palace in the 2017/18 season. Loftus-Cheek played so well in his 25 appearances that he’s on his way to the World Cup this summer and that is enough to show why Benitez likes him. While Waugh believes the Magpies look unlikely to sign the talented midfielder at this stage, he doesn’t exactly dismissed the idea that he could arrive. With the Spanish manager retaining a constant interesting in Loftus-Cheek it is to see why he can’t dismiss him being brought to the club. Hopefully the stars align and the Magpies are able to somehow get the 22-year-old at St James Park for next season, as he will be one of the most exciting signings they have made in recent windows. While fans will no doubt be delighted at Kenedy potentially returning to the club, which will be on loan derailing any deal for Loftus-Cheek, at least there’s another talented Blues option to take on loan if it comes to it.
