Cardiff City are lining up an offer to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Paul Woolston in the summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that Cardiff, who were recently promoted from the Championship, are preparing a mover the 19-year-old at the end of the season.

It is understood that the shot-stopper will be released at St James’ Park this summer and Neil Warnock’s side are in pole position to snap him up.

The report details that the England youth goalkeeper impressed on a trial with Cardiff and they are considering a deal for him, as they prepare for life back in the Premier League next season.

The Sun’s report also explains that there has been interest from Championship rivals and teams in Spain for the highly-rated youngster.

Good move for Newcastle?

Woolston is a youngster that could come good in the future, but allowing him to depart in the summer makes perfect sense.

Newcastle have an overload of goalkeepers already on their books in the shape of Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, Matz Sels and Freddie Woodman.

They are unlikely to give Woolston his senior debut anytime soon and his exit comes at the right time, where he will pursue a career elsewhere.

Likely to happen?

It seems fairly likely that Woolston is going to depart in the summer when his contract ends and he appears to be an in-demand player.

Newly-promoted Cardiff are the frontrunners to land him after he impressed on trial with them.
